Early Pregnancy Symptoms: What are They?

There are several early pregnancy symptoms that catch the pregnant woman unawares. Is this your second or third pregnancy? If yes, then you may easily tell that you are pregnant since you’ve gone through the experience of pregnancy before. If it is the first, then you may be a little uncertain.

What are these early pregnancy symptoms? They may range from swollen, tender or sore breast/nipples, to fatigue, to frequent urges to urinate, to morning sickness and delayed menstruation. You may experience all or none of them.

The first physical symptom of pregnancy could be swollen or tender breast or nipples that hurt. Many women in fact rely on this sign to inform them that they are pregnant. Why are breasts and/ or nipples often sore, swollen, or tender during early pregnancy? It is because the breasts are undergoing changes to prepare for breastfeeding. An increased production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone cause this tenderness, and it can be particularly painful if you are pregnant for the first time.

Another early pregnancy symptom is fatigue or unusual tiredness. A woman’s body is working very hard to keep up with the changes that occur in early pregnancy. She experiences increased hormone production in the form of the tiredness, when her heart is pumping harder and faster due to an escalating blood flow, to bring the necessary nutrients to the growing fetus. Increased progesterone production is the primary reason for the extra fatigue most pregnant women experience early in their pregnancy. Progesterone is known to cause sleepiness and is a natural central nervous system depressant. This is a period when the pregnant woman also experiences emotional extremes, and her tiredness nay result from that too. You may be well advised to go to sleep as often as you can before your baby arrives when you’ll need your energy to care for your newborn baby.

This is the phase when you might miss your period and this is often the first sign that makes you suspect pregnancy. You will need a pregnancy test followed by a pelvic exam, to tell you positively whether you are pregnant. At the same time, you may experience a small spot of blood to throw you off track that this may be menstruation. It is known as implantation bleeding, occurring when the fertilized egg implants in the uterine lining, about 14 days or so after conception. You might also experience cramping similar to menstrual cramps when your uterus begins to expand to make room for your embryo to grow into a fetus.

Nausea is an early pregnancy symptom and can happen with or without a bout of morning sickness. It is caused owing to rapid estrogen levels in the blood produced by the fetus and placenta, or owing to odors that may be difficult to breathe in for you. From household odors, to foods, to smoke and perfume, anything can trigger off a bout of nausea. Their may be another reason to increase your frequency of bathroom trips, sudden urges to urinate caused by the growing uterus, and this too may well be an early pregnancy symptom that lasts well into the first trimester.

Last pregnancy I has my veins get really electrified green looking, you could see my entire circulation system (pretty gross), I had an elevated basal temp, stuffed up nose (like I had a bugger but nothing was there and no blowing of the nose), sore and enlarged breasts, and craved blueberries. This was all within 1 week before my missed period. I also had super smell too. 4 days before my missed period I woke up and my stomach did a nausiated fish flop and I knew I was pregnant, went to the store at 5am and sure enough, tested positive. I miscarried at 7 weeks.

This time (just found out yesterday) I have gotten really emotional — crying over the silliest things or getting teary eyed at the least when I talk about feelings etc. I also had stomach bug 2 weeks ago and sinuses ever since (so my nose is snotty/stuffy this time), and Im starting to feel nausiated in my stomach like the last time. My breasts are sore to the touch and are fuller but not enlarged so to speak. Foods I generally like make me want to gag eating more than a few bites. I have also been transposing numbers and more forgetful than usual and tired. Im very horney (sorry, TMI) but abstaining from sex. I didnt think I was pregnant to tell you the truth, but I tested. Early (Im only 14 days past ovulation) and tested at night (double whammy). I was expecting it to be negative, but I got positive. So, Im excited!!

Each pregnancy is different so symptoms will vary. Good luck though.

I don’t know if i’m pregnant yet but my period is due Monday so I plan on taking a test Tuesday. We’ve only been TTC #2 for two months now but i’m really hoping to get my BFP soon! These are some things i’ve been experiencing lately that are very unusual for me.

*Spotting light pink after sex when I wipe (has NEVER happened to me before and the sex wasn’t rough or dry) I heard spotting after sex in early pregnancy is common because the cervix becomes more sensitive and is easily irritated. Blood supply to the cervix is much higher during pregnancy.

*Sex has been hurting me right above my vagina and on both sides (No new positions and it isn’t rough)

*Nose has been extremely runny (No allergies, I don’t have a cold, and i’m not eating anything spicy)

*Left boob is sore when something pushes up against it (hurts on the side right under armpit) and both nipples have been very senstive. Sometimes has a burning feeling to it.

*Very dry CM ( I usually have a clear type of discharge before AF arrives)

*Veins on chest/boobs have become very noticable.

*Heightened sense of smell (I could smell my son’s dirty diaper while he was in his room and I was on the opposite side of the house)

*Have been very hungry lately and get very nauseous if I don’t eat anything.

*Craving sweets! I usually NEVER want sweets -spicy foods are normally my thing

*Keep having dreams of me being pregnant and I even had a dream of taking 3 HPTs that all came back positive.

*Very lazy lately – no energy.

*Been very tired and have been experiencing insomnia.

*Get dizzy after standing up too fast (happened to me when pregnant with my son)

*Random dull cramps right above vagina. Sometimes sharp. (Felt these when pregnant with my son also)

    *VERY moody/mean. Getting annoyed easily.

    *Lots of gas

That’s all I can think of for now but I hope you get your BFP very soon!
