Is it normal to not suffer from morning sickness during pregnancy?
by Sue on Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 | 28 Comments
This is my first pregnancy and I didn’t suffer from any morning sickness, and was probably sick around 6 times from weeks 6-11. Is this healthy, as my sister says morning sickness is supposed to be good for you.

I never felt sick during any of my pregnancies. Everything is "normal" there is no norm. And morning sickness is not good for you. I can’t imagine why she thought that.

During my first pregnancy I didn’t have any morning sickness at all, but my second I had a whole lot of morning sickness, so i would say that it’s fine not to have any.

Your sister is talking none sense.
if you are lucky enough to get through a pregnancy without feeling sick then well done to you.
Its not everyone who has these symptoms.

extrememly normal!! I never had morning sickness, some people get it later on though.

I did not have any morning sickness at all. I only felt sick a couple of times. My son came out very healthy and still is. Every pregnancy is different, my friend was actually signed off from work because she had it so bad. We were pregnant at the same time but our pregnancies were so different from each other and we both had boys ten days apart from each other.

Morning sickness isnt good for anyone, mom or baby. It makes it harder for mom to keep food down and possibly dehydrating her. Baby gets what she or he needs from mom no matter what. But if mom becomes unhealthy from being sick, baby might suffer.
It is compeltely normal to not have morning sickness, not all women have it. Its not as common though.

Yes it’s normal – remember everyone is different.
I was never sick with either of my children throughout the pregnancies.
They have both turned out into fit healthy beautiful children.

It is normal & still healthy to not have a lot of morning sickness. With my first pregnancy I didn’t have morning sickness either, I only threw up like 4 times throughout the entire pregnancy. And he was still healthy.

I only had one day of morning sickness with mine. Seeing what some mums go through, I would count yourself lucky.

yeah it’s normal…I have some friends who didn’t even feel pregnant(no sickness at all) and they had healthy babies. I, however, was sick as a dog until I was 14 weeks and they say I too am having a normal healthy baby. You just might be lucky.

It is a matter of different strokes for different folks. Everyone does not experience pregnancy exactly the same. We all have similar as well as different symptom during pregnancy. I experienced no morning sickness and I did just fine. Congrats on your 1st child.

My first pregnancy I was only sick about 3/4 times . My second pregnancy I was sick 24/7 went to the doctors and he prescribed tablets to relieve the feeling .
How can sickness be healthy . I felt absolutely horrendous and was hardly giving my baby all the nutrients etc my growing baby needed as I was constantly sick.

Your sister must not be in the medical field. Not sure where she got that, but it is absolutely NOT true. Vomiting is never "good" for you (unless you just swallowed poison). Many very lucky women do not get sick at all during pregnancy. It is a BLESSING, you are one of the lucky ones. It’s a great thing so don’t worry.

Morning sickness is just a reaction to hormone changes. They take place regardless of whether or not you suffer from their side effects i.e nausea and/or vomiting.
One my first pregnancy I had nausea but no actual vomiting.
On my second pregnancy I had neither nausea nor vomiting.
I had two perfect and healthy babies.

I had two pregnancies and never had morning sickness with either one, and both me and my two children are very healthy and happy. So join the ranks of us who were lucky! Why in the world would morning sickness ever be good for anyone? Maybe your sister is a little jealous.

I’m 5 weeks pregnant with my first and (KNOCK ON WOOD) i haven’t had any type of morning sickness. the only thing bothering me are the mild cramps which my doctor said are normal.
So hopefully I’ll be like many of you and not have the dreaded morning sickness!!! =)

Everyone’s chemistry is different, so we will, of course, have different experiences in our pregnancies. I was not ill very often either, thank goodness — and I can’t imagine why someone would think that vomiting is "good for you". (???)
We can count our lucky stars that we squeezed by without much nausea! Here’s wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy (and baby!)

Consider yourself very lucky, my sister only suffered very mild nausea for a couple of months, I was sick every day for 7 months. Your sister is wrong when she said morning sickness is good for you, everyone is different, some suffer some don’t, there is no hard and fast rule on this one.

Your sister told you that…is she a doctor? My first pregnancy was great. No morning sickness, no upset stomach and I worked until 4 days before my due date. Baby was extremely healthy and very smart (still is). Be thankful. My second pregnancy was the opposite. I was thankful to have him out 10 days early (he’s healthy too).

i was only sick twice with my first and too many times to count with second so i wouldn’t worry about it.

Its all individual, it can be both normal and not normal ….
an ambiguous answer i know, but my mother never suffered a days sickness ever , the one pregnancy that didnt have any sickness for me ended abruptly, and i was told that the higher the pregnancy hormone , the more likely you are to be sick , so in a twisted way sickness is good as it means there is lots of the hormone that maintains the pregnancy , however , it doesnt have to be so and after 12 weeks for most the sickness settles down , your past that now so i wouldnt worry its no very nice to have sickness and it isnt a rule of thumb , but for some its a re assuring sign if its only mild.
Be thankful , and best of luck…if you worried just ask you rmidwife…they are only too happy to put your mind at rest , or they should be…..
good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
